China A great people’s revolution is sweeping through Asia. Mighty empires which only yesterday held hundreds of millions of people in subjection are tottering. A new Asia is in birth.

From Tokyo to Cairo and from Batavia to Istanbul a thousand million people are surging forward to win freedom and democracy. They are fighting to usher in a new era for the Common Man of Asia. They are struggling to establish freedom and democracy on the basis of their own customs and traditions.

A great battle rages in China today. The four hundred million people of that ancient nation are struggling against the feudal despotism and American intervention to realize people’s rule in accord with Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s “Three Principles.”

After two centuries of British domination the people of India have forced John Bull to haul down the Union Jack. Two sister dominions - the Union of India and Pakistan - have come into being. India today stands on the threshold of full independence.

In Japan, fascism aided by foreign imperialists is again raising its head. However, here too a struggle rages between the young democratic forces and reaction.

Two new people’s republics have been born in Indonesia and Viet Nam (Indo-China). For two years now the people of these nations have fought to preserve their newly won freedom against the Dutch and French imperialists. The whole of the Near East is in ferment.

World imperialism, with the United States at its head, is in a moral crisis. It - is trying desperately to reverse the tide of history.

A titanic battle rages today between the democratic forces of the people and anti-democratic imperialist reaction in Asia. This struggle has deep importance for the people of Canada and America. The outcome will determine their own future.

I have made a modest attempt to answer some of the vital problems facing the people of Asia. The range of the subject is so enormous that any treatment of it in a limited space can at best only touch upon the main highlights. In this conflict I do not pretend to be impartial. No sane person can afford that luxury when the issues are so decisive. I have tried to present as objective a picture as possible of the issues that confront the peoples of Asia.
